A Personal Word from Tommy Montoya
History helps us understand the present—and my history was messy. It was rooted in chaos, dysfunction, poverty, and ignorance. I was influenced by darkness, chasing power and control without realizing that everything around me was dying—including my own spirit.
But the moment I sought God’s Kingdom, everything shifted. He laid His hands on me, and my life began to be rebuilt on a foundation of accountability, discipline, redemption, and loyalty.
All He gave me was a phrase: “Den of Lions.”
That phrase turned into a ministry.
That ministry turned into a movement.
And that movement became what you see today: Lord and Lions.
Who I Am
I’ve always had the heart of a warrior.
Since the age of 13, martial arts has been a key part of my life—teaching me focus, discipline, and resilience. But there was a time when I walked away from it all… and still, God didn’t walk away from me.
He whispered again: “Karate for free.”
That phrase brought me back—not just to fighting, but to serving.
I launched my first ministry teaching martial arts to youth for free, so that my brother’s death would not be in vain. Years afterwards, I stepped into gym ownership, entrepreneurship, and leadership—learning hard lessons, enduring setbacks, and growing through every one of them.
By God’s grace, we’ve stayed open since 2004, and I’ve been blessed to achieve:

But I’m most proud of the lives we’ve changed, the leaders we’ve trained, and the warriors we’ve equipped to walk in purpose.
